The Growth of The Garden Office

The COVID-19 pandemic has changed the way we live and work with many companies having to put stringent measures in place for the protection of their customers and workforce. One of these measures included asking all employees, where it was reasonably practical, to work from home.

In April 2020, 46.6% of people in employment did some or all of their work from home; of those who worked from home, 86% did so as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. This was a massive shift from 2019 where only 5.1% of the population worked from home on a full-time basis.

COVID-19 has changed so much of how we operate and as we finally head into our ‘new normal’, many businesses and employees have realised the benefits of working from home. This could be anything from businesses saving money on office space and overheads, to time saved for employees on commuting.

One of the many things to come out of our ‘new work’ is the growth of the garden office, effectively an insulated shed or log cabin with an electrical hook-up, enabling people to work from home in a dedicated space away from the home the noise and distractions of family life.

At Lightwater Quarries, our mix-on-site (volumetric) concrete business, Concrete4U, has seen an exponential increase in the number of enquiries and deliveries made to domestic customers building such workspaces.

A base for a garden office typically only requires 1 – 4m³ of concrete and can be laid in under an hour. Our only pay for what you use, zero waste system, avoids any issues with over or under ordering.
