Gabion stone is used for the stabilisation and control of both Thirsk earthworks and river works. Most commonly placed in baskets and stacked neatly to hold back the land for stabilisation is does look very attractive if well placed and suitably handled by contractors. Although this is the most common use for gabion it can be used in a rockery to make a really attractive and low maintenance garden feature due to the colour and the angular nature of the gabion it looks very natural when placed well as a design feature in a garden.
In addition, Gabion Stone can be seen in and around the Thirsk area as a feature on the top of dry stone walling, it differs from traditional walling stone as it is not such a slab but a more angular material meaning that it needs to be hand-picked for this application. If done well it complements the dry stone wall and fits in well with the natural surroundings, if you have seen our gabion stone you may well spot it as you drive around the North Yorkshire countryside!
